From the fake charity that targeted high-profile National Geographic photographers to the former Chief Official White House Photographer who had to turn to the FBI after being repeatedly impersonated, the last year has brought with it its fair share of high-profile scam incidents.

Most of the cons we’ve come across are scarily sophisticated, complex, and convincing, but they also tend to follow a certain formula. Read on as we break down some of the more common scams targeting everyday photographers, including a (totally fake) expedition to Iceland with a famous photographer, a “job offer” from Esquire, and the “contest winner” email that has (funnily enough) landed in our inboxes here at Feature Shoot.
