Over the years, The Alexia, now part of the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, has awarded $1.7 million in grant funding to a total of 170 student and professional photographers. This year alone, the W. Eugene Smith Fund, which has awarded $1.3 million in grants since its founding, will offer $55,000 to support the creation of multiple photographic projects and essays.

Every two years, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris provides €35,000 to support a documentary project. The CatchLight Global Fellowship, meanwhile, comes with an award of $30,000. Right now, The Aftermath Project is accepting proposals for their $25,000 grant opportunity.

There are some amazing organizations out there looking to support the next generation of photojournalists and lens-based artists; it’s just a matter of finding them. Well, we’ve done the hard work for you and we are pleased to share our list of top 40 grants for photographers.
