27 Opportunities for Photographers (August)
Our curated picks
Photographers, I hope you’re enjoying the dog days of summer. I thought it was going to be quiet this month, but to my surprise, we found 27 grants, awards, exhibitions, residencies, and open calls worthy of your consideration. And more than a dozen opportunities are free to enter.
Themes this month include freedom, memory, plants, weather, animals, queer communities, humanitarian issues, climate change, public health, breast cancer awareness, alternative photographic processes, architecture, contemporary America, food systems, passion, and more.
P.S. If you are unable to afford subscribing to our premium newsletter due to financial hardship, simply reply “comp” to this email, and I’ll add you to the list to receive these listings for free.
Copenhagen Photo Festival 2027 Open Call
About
The Copenhagen Photo Festival invites photographers and lens-based artists worldwide to apply for its 2027 Open Call for Solo Artists. The festival seeks artistically ambitious and conceptually strong projects that challenge conventional ideas of photography while bridging fine art and documentary practice.
For the 2027 edition, applicants are invited to respond to the theme “Free Hands”, exploring ideas of freedom, artistic expression, democracy, technology, authenticity, and the human touch in an increasingly automated world. Projects should also consider sustainable exhibition design and the materiality of photographic presentation.
