25 Photo Workshops to Plan For This Year

Small group and one-on-one workshops have always been at the heart of the photo industry, from the famous Group f.64 workshops taught by the likes of Imogen Cunningham and Brett Weston to Lisette Model’s coveted street photography courses, attended by none other than Diane Arbus. In 1958, Ansel Adams taught a three-day workshop for just $10 a person.

In the last year, in-person workshops have experienced a much-deserved renaissance. Maine Media Workshops + College, a non-profit educational organization in Rockport, Maine, is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. In 2022, their on-campus program grew to twice the size of 2021, with enrollments going strong.

Photo workshops have been hugely influential in the past, but in 2023, perhaps they mean more than ever before—providing an opportunity not only to learn something new but also to make friends in the “real world” with people who share our passions. Here are 25 workshops to keep on your radar this year.
