Small group and one-on-one workshops have always been at the heart of the photo industry, from the famous Group f.64 workshops taught by the likes of Imogen Cunningham and Brett Weston to Lisette Model’s coveted street photography courses, attended by none other than Diane Arbus. In 1958, Ansel Adams taught a three-day workshop for just $10 a person.
In the last year, in-person workshops have experienced a much-deserved renaissance. Maine Media Workshops + College, a non-profit educational organization in Rockport, Maine, is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. In 2022, their on-campus program grew to twice the size of 2021, with enrollments going strong.
